From the Long Sad Party

Someone was saying
something about shadows covering the field, about
how things pass, how one sleeps towards morning
and the morning goes.

Someone was saying
how the wind dies down but comes back,
how shells are the coffins of wind
but the weather continues.

It was a long night
and someone said something about the moon
  shedding its white
on the cold field, that there was nothing ahead
but more of the same.

Someone mentioned
a city she had been in before the war, a room
  with two candles
against a wall, someone dancing, someone watching.
We begin to believe

the night would not end.
Someone was saying the music was over and no
  one had noticed.
Then someone said something about the planets,
  about the stars,
how small they were, how far away.

一个人在说

风怎样消失又回来，

那是个长夜

一个人说一件事情，关于月亮把白色

照在冰冷的田野，它前方空空

只有相同的风景



一个人提起

她在战争以前居住的城市，房间里有两枝烛

迎墙照耀，一个人跳舞，

一个人观看。

我们开始相信




夜不会结束

一个人在说音乐结束了但没有人察觉

然后一个人说一件事情，关于天体，关于星星

它们有多小，它们有多远
