on the level
今天我们要讲的习惯用语就是：On the level.
Level这个字也有好几个解释/在这里可以解释为水平面
on the level就可以说是在水平面之上
是清清楚楚可以看的见的，不是隐蔽
要是说一个人是on the level,那这个人就是很直率的，你可以相信他的话的
If you plan to buy a new car, I recommend you go to Joe Doakers. My friend Joe is really on the level - he'll give you a fair price, and he'll take good care of the car after you buy it.
这是一个人在对他的朋友说话。他说：要是你准备买新车的话，我建议你去找我的朋友乔.多克斯。乔是很老实的。他会给你很公道的价格。你买了车以后，他也会很好地维护你的车。
Bob, we've known each other more than ten years now. I consider you as a very good friend and expect you to be on the level with me. So you really disappoint me by bad-mouthing me among my classmates.
这个人说：鲍博，我们认识到现在已经有十多年了。我把你看作是一个很好的朋友，同时也期望你对我真诚相待。可是，你在我的同学当中说我的坏话。这使我非常失望。
这里顺便说一下，英文名字有的时候会使人感到很混乱，因为有的名字有时会简化，变成跟原来的名字很不相同。
上面这个例句子里的Bob就是从Robert这个名字来的。简化了的名字，可以说是非正式的名字，但是也有不少人在正式场合也用简化了的名字。
最突出的就是美国总统克林顿。克林顿的正式名字是: William Clinton. 但是，他在签署正式文件的时候也用Bill Clinton, 而不用William Clinton。
