A US Capitol police officer has died of injuries sustained during the Capitol riots. A statement says Officer Brian Sicknick was hurt while confronting rioters, and later collapsed.

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos resigned, saying there's no mistaking the impact of President Trump's rhetoric on the violence.Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao is also stepping down, saying the Capitol attack deeply troubles her.

Congressional leaders say President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration will move forward. Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be sworn-in from the Capitol's West Front, an area where a violent mob overpowered police.

SpaceX launched its first mission of 2021, with a rocket blasting off from Florida on Thursday. It carried a Turkish satellite that is set to provide television and broadband service for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
