A senior US prosecutor says two men convicted of the murder in 1965 of the American civil rights leader Malcolm X are to have their convictions quashed.

During the hearing, Chansley said he was wrong to enter the capital building and claimed not to be an insurrectionist or domestic terrorist.

Chansley has already spent more than 9 months in jail since being indicted and a federal judge denied his request to be released early this year, saying that he'd pose a risk of future potential violence.

The sentence is one of the longest handed-downs so far in connection to the Capitol riot.
