娱乐英语新闻:Leonardo DiCaprio promotes "The Revenant" in New York

Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio walked the red carpet in New York to promote his upcoming film "The Revenant".

Inspired by the experiences of frontiersman and fur trapper Hugh Glass, the film aims to reproduce the wounded man's quest for survival in the brutal cold as real as possible.

The veteran actor says the cold wilderness was a great challenge for him while shooting the film.

"This is a very difficult undertaking for all of us, but at the end of the day, we have warm places to go to. We're not submerging ourselves purely in the elements like that. But as far as a moviemaking experience, it was the most difficult of my entire career and for all of us because we really wanted to submerge ourselves in this environment, in this world."

Based in part on the novel "The Revenant: A Novel of Revenge", the plot is set in 1823 Montana and South Dakota.

Director Alejandro Inarritu only used natural light to film the story, as he believes it was more than just a filmmaking experience.

"We were all emboldened to embark on a journey that we knew in advance of what we were going through and that was part of the excitement. The film is about survival and endurance and resilience. To go into that same circumstance as the character was part of the journey of all of us, so it was hard, but it was the fun part of it."

DiCaprio earlier grabbed a Golden Globe best actor nomination for his performance in "The Revenant", which is considered as the front-runner to win the title this year.

"The Revenant" is ready to open in the US later today.
