国际英语新闻:3 senior police officials killed in E. Afghan explosion
JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Three senior police officials had been killed and one other injured after a bomb attack targeted a police vehicle in Jalalabad city, the provincial capital of eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar on Monday morning, a source said.
"Three lecturers of the Nangarhar Police Academy were martyred and one other injured when a roadside-planted bomb hit their vehicle in Gumrok area of the city at around 7:00 a.m. local time, " a provincial government official told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The injured along with the bodies had been shifted to a military hospital in the city, 120 km east of Afghan capital of Kabul, the source added.
Shortly after the attack, the Taliban insurgent group claimed responsibility for the incident.
The Taliban has intensified attacks over the past couple of months as the NATO and U.S. forces are withdrawing from the country. The war-torn country is due to take over the responsibility for its own security from NATO-led troops by the end of year.
More than 34,000 NATO-led coalition troops, down from the peak of 130,000 in 2010, are stationed in Afghanistan. Nearly 24,000 of them are Americans and the United States plans to trim its forces to less than 10,000 next year.
