He also said an international initiative for the Amazon would be launched in the coming months at the United Nations, which would examine how to reforest damaged areas. Mr. Macron has clashed with Brazil's President Jair Bolsonaro over the issue.

Indonesia's President Joko Widodo has announced that the country's new capital will be built on the island of Borneo. With more details, here's Tracy Berchan.

President Widodo said the move was a matter of urgency. Jakarta, the current capital is a n overcrowded, traffic choke city that is sinking fast. East Kalimantan in Indonesia on Borneo has been chosen as the new seat of government for various reasons. It's geographically in the center of the country's archipelago and it's relatively free of volcanoes and the threat of earthquakes. The president said the relocation project would cost around thirty-three billion dollars. However, Borneo is home to dense rain forests and environmental groups are concerns that building a new capital there will harm wildlife habitats. Tracy Berchan.

The South Korean Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon says Seoul will reconsider ending its intelligence pact with Japan if it withdraws its export curbs. Mr. Lee said the trade restrictions were unjust and warned his country wouldn't want to share military secrets if they continued. Both measures have escalated tensions between the Asian neighbors to new levels.

The French President Emmanuel Macron has attacked his Brazilian counterpart Jair Bolsonaro for making what he called extremely disrespectful comments about his wife Brigitte. Mr. Macron said that the insults were sad for Brazil and that the Latin American country deserved a president who was up to the job. Mr. Macron made the comments after the Brazilian president used Facebook to endorse a sexist comment posted by one of his supporters.
