A court in Washington has jailed the former leader of the far-right Proud Boys group for 22 years for his part in the storming of the US Congress.

It's the longest sentence handed out in the hundreds of convictions that followed the capitol riots of January 2021.

Although he wasn't actually present in Washington on the day of the riot, having been arrested and banned 2 days earlier, prosecutors argued that Tarrio, as the Proud Boys’ leader, orchestrated, organized and demanded credit for what happened.
