美国的超市竟然不叫supermarket？那叫什么？

到了美国之后，从来都没有听身边的老外说过supermarket这个词。他们叫超市grocery store，国人也形象统称为Big Box，比如Walmart(沃尔玛），Costco（好士多）, Sam's Club（山姆）。
特点是规模大、种类多，从食物到生活用品，家居电器和汽车配件等都可买到。一般分布在城市的边缘，交通方便，价格实惠。

比如说家里食物都吃光了，牙膏、厕纸等这些日用品也用完了，我需要去超市买日用品和食物，我会说:
I need to do grocery shopping.

购买食物和日用品统称 do grocery shopping

Go shopping一般指去买衣服、鞋子等除食物和日用品之外的东西。

去grocery store买回来的东西统称为groceries。

比如说我们从超市回到家，Anthony一般会让我把东西放好，他去放狗出来，他会说 :
I'll go get dogs. You need to put groceries away.

Put groceries away指把每样东西放到它们该被放置的地方，比如需要冷藏的东西要放冰箱里。

需要注意的是，描述家里已经有的东西，一般不用groceries这个词，例如我不会指着食物储藏柜里的东西跟别人说These are our groceries.
